Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival in West Bengal. There is more than one legend about this celebration, but in all of them <spoiler alert> the goddess Durga defeats the demon.

During the festival the city turns into something like Las Vegas with its neon lights, LED structures and people ‘pandal-hopping’ way past their bedtime.

I think Indian people watch a lot of Sci-fi movies

Of course, they do this because the pandals look even better at night and each year in Kolkata there’s more than a thousand of them, because the best ones get awarded. Most of them have either a recording or live music playing which can be described by two words: “Drum Diarrhea”.

We saw that this last one get an award for something. The lotus shape had meaning in one particular legend which we didn’t know at the time, but that didn’t make the spectacle less impressive.
