Practical placement in Kolkata, India

Ambiance of Kolkata

♫ “Day and Night” ♫

If you ever wondered what India sounds like then you’re in the right place. To show what the environment is, I’ve decided to upload pictures and audio recordings of what I see and hear when I get up and right before I go to bed. Mind you that I live in the suburbs of Kolkata, but then again isn’t the majority of India in the suburbs?

Morning:

Always starts out with birds chirping and… newspaper salesmen and other vendors trying to advertise their goods by being as loud or as unusual as humanly possible. Who needs an alarm clock, anyway.

"If you don't come to my shop I come to you"

“If you don’t come to my shop I come to you”

Morning in Kolkata

Nighttime:

The sound that can be heard at night reminded me of this scene form the movie Inglorious Basterds. This guy was creeping us out for the first week, but then our friend AIESEC‘er Aditya explained that: “… this is the neighborhood security. He goes around making sound so that thieves would hear him and run away.” After he told this to us it’s actually harder to fall asleep without hearing that guy in the street.

"Haters gonna hate..."

“Keeping you safe, all night long, keeping you safe while I sing this song”
